So Called Inner

Workings…

The sculpture compiled of old speakers and other various electronics mounted on a dismantled speaker box, with the “guts” of the speaker spilling out. This piece plays with the simplicity of the circuit inside a speaker, which most are unaware of, or take for granted. I chose to over complicate the circuit with various unnecessary electronics, to contrast the vast growth in audio technology and the “death” of so many old, unused pieces of analog equipment.  The sounds around this piece also play at this same concept.  Stemming from “broken” sounding equipment, using no-input mixing, as well as some of today’s electronic instrument plug-ins to give a sound to this “dying” equipment.  The piece was recorded in quad using a max patch, which triggered sounds using motion sensors that were placed on each side of the sculpture.  As people moved and walked around the sculpture, the motion sensors triggered electronic/glitch sound cues from each of the four libraries.
